这个通信海缆铺设船，一次性载缆量可达10000吨，非常惊人了。海缆主要是电力海缆和通信海缆，由于海上风电这些年的快速发展，海上风电和陆地连接的电力海缆铺设也发展很快。像国内的电力海缆两大巨头中天科技和东方电缆都有自己的海缆铺设船。不过载缆量最大也只有6000吨左右。电力海缆，特别是高压海缆巨粗巨重，500kv海缆每米重达82公斤。目前宁波南通海新重工正在为浙江启明海洋电力工程有限公司建造国内首艘万吨级载缆量电力海缆铺设船，3芯交流220千伏海缆最大装载近90公里。挪威乌斯坦船厂为船东Prysmian建造的全球最大海缆铺设船达芬奇号，有两个海缆转盘，一个1万吨，1个7000吨。
如今全球的专用通信海缆铺设船，总量仅为51艘，且老旧船多，大型船也不多。我国拥有铺缆船的船东主要有中英海底系统有限公司(合资)、浙江省电力建设有限公司、中国海底电缆建设有限公司等企业，共有3艘船，吨位较小、设备能力不足。其中，中英海底系统持有1艘4975吨海缆船，挂巴拿马旗而非中国旗，在我国近海施工也受到一定限制。CSCC有1艘1900吨铺缆船，浙江电力建设公司有1艘1520吨铺缆船，均主要从事近海作业。这艘载缆量万吨的通信海缆船的下水和投入，将极大提高中国的远洋通信海缆的铺设能力。
